Message of His Holiness Pope Francis to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II on the Day of Fraternal Love

"Persevere in brotherly love". (Heb 13:1) (18)

Message of His Holiness Pope Francis to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II on the Day of Fraternal Love:

Vatican Message No: 451398 of May 7, 2019,
The day of brotherly love.

Your Excellency, Ambassador,
I am pleased to ask you to kindly convey the following papal message to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, as a papal message signed at the appropriate time.

To His Holiness, my beloved brother in Christ, Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Preaching of St. Mark.

As we approach the anniversary of our unforgettable meeting in Rome on May 10, 2013, which coincided with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the historic meeting of Pope Saint Paul VI and Pope Shenouda III, who had initiated the annual day of friendship between Copts and Catholics. I would like to cordially express my happiness at the spiritual links between the pulpit of St. Peter and the pulpit of St. Mark.

These spiritual links have been strengthened and developed through the Theological Dialogue initiated in 2004 with the International Associate Committee for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches, which has produced two important documents reflecting the growing understanding between us.

I am very grateful for the dedicated efforts of Anba Bishoy, his blessed memory, as co-chair of this dialogue since its inception, and I am delighted that the new co-chair is once again a pastor and theologian of the Coptic Church, Anba Cyril, Bishop of Los Angeles.

Continuing on our path, supported by the intercession of saints and martyrs and all those who have been persecuted in the name of Christ.

I was deeply moved by the events in the Copts last November in Cairo. I join your holiness in praying to the Lord to send his Holy Spirit to comfort the hearts of those who have suffered from this tragedy. May the Holy Spirit unite us forever in the bond of Christian love and guide us on our common pilgrimage, in truth and charity, to the realization of Christ's prayer "so that all may be one..." John 17:21
I promise to continue to pray for your holiness and for the Coptic Orthodox Church.
I would like to exchange with you an embrace of fraternity, of the peace of the risen Christ.
Pope Francis I
My thanks, love & deep respect
Sincerely in Christ
